Should I take AP English Language and Composition ?
I’m going to be a junior this year and I’m still debating whether or not to take AP Junior English. Writing is mandatory in this class. I’m pretty good at writing but not so much at reading. I do have mostly A’s and a very few B’s in my previous English classes. Both of my Freshmen and Sophomore English teachers think I can handle the class. The thing is: I’m also taking AP Chemistry, AP Psychology and Calculus this year. Would AP English be too much for me ? English is my second language and I started learning it about 5 years ago. That’s probably the reason why I’m not very familiar with many complex non-fiction books. How do I know whether or not I’m capable of taking this course ?
If you have taken this class before, can you please tell me a little bit about it ? How was the load of work ? What is the level of reading and writing expected for the course ? Thanks!
Take it it not very difficult belive me and you will get college credit. The level of reading is nothing you cannot handle if you are going to hs in English plus you can always go to a tutor to check your writing before submitting the assignments. If you don’t have a tutor at school for $50 you can get unlimited tutoring for one month with Tutorvista o $124 x 2 months. I use that service and they check my writing before I submit it.
They can also give suggestions on how to make your paper better etc.
Also you can take Straighterline.com classes for college credit they are $99 a month so if you finish the class in a month it only costs you $99 or $399 for six months. Credit is given by Fort Hays State University and they offer classes in English Comp I and I, Economics I and II, Accounting I and II, Statistics, Algebra and Pre-Calculus.
You can also take CLEP and DSST exams for college credits. All these are great alternatives to save money and go directly to the area of study.
Oh and I forgot.. there is Louisiana State University independent study division that offers a whole bunch of college credit classes by independent study that you can take for $250 for 3 credits. As you can see there are lots of options for you to earn college credit while in highschool
