How to learn Latin by myself?
i live in iran, and i couldn’t find any latin courses, nor any latin tutors, so that leaves me with one option: self-studying. i’ve heard about two good books: “Introduction to Latin by Shelmerdine” and “Wheelock’s Latin” but i can’t order them online, this service is not available in this goddamn country, can i find them as eBooks, for free? or any free online programs?
this is the 21st century, u don’t need books. u can use online materials. read some basic intro to latin grammar like that in wikepedia. find an online latin dictionary. this is one is good for a beginner. http://archives.nd.edu/latgramm.htm but there may be better ones. then find some latin text, e.g., caeasar’s gallic wars, which for centuries european schoolkids learned latin from. and a bilingual online edition, in latin and english, and start reading. pay special attention to identifying latin words which are found in some form in english, e.g. fac-e-re (which i broke up into parts for you), which is related to
fac-t, pre-fec-t, con-fec-t-ion, and so on. u will discover that u already knew about half, maybe more, of latin vocabulary, so it is NOT like learning chinese.
